Frequently Asked Questions
Dear FGA Families,
Welcome to Foundations Gymnastics Academy. Thank you for trusting us with your children as we embark on a semester of growth and learning for all. Please know we want the best for your child(ren) and our goal is that they are equal parts challenged (through learning new skills, setting goals, conquering fears) and embraced (through affirmation, laughter, fun, while moving at a pace they are comfortable)-in a safe, positive and uplifting environment. If you ever need extra support, please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions, concerns, feedback, etc.
We are Christian based and prayer will be part of our program either at the beginning or end of class. FGA’s chosen “Verse” and pretty much the entire foundation and goal for your children is Joshua 1:9. So you will see variations of this verse in artwork we do in camps, on our wall, promotional materials, gear, social media, email, website, etc. It is our hope and prayer for your child(ren) to always feel “Strong and Courageous” and instill confidence in their physical abilities through our program.

FAQ
Many of you are wondering what to wear for your first day. We request all attire be tasteful, limited verbiage and absolutely no foul language or inappropriate references. Skin around the midsection should not intentionally be exposed. For example a sports bra and shorts (without something over it) or (for our male students) arriving in a pair of bottoms without a shirt). For the ladies, preference is a leotard with spandex shorts or leggings so there is appropriate coverage but still allows us to make appropriate corrections on body shapes and form. Please no baggy shorts, pants, or shirts/sweatshirts. It makes it difficult to correct technique as well as safely spot skills. If “tight” clothing or texture of certain material is uncomfortable for your child we completely understand and will accommodate. If your child prefers “loose fitting” apparel we find that is acceptable as long as it’s modest, will not expose, hinder movement, or get caught in a coach’s hand while spotting. Safety is our number one priority. ***A form to pre-order an official FGA leotard with logo will be available on the tables right outside our door if you wish to order one. The gentlemen should wear athletic shirts and shorts in their actual size. Lastly, it’s incredibly important that hair is pulled back as neatly as possible(either in a ponytail or bun) especially if hair is long. Similar to attire, it hinders practice by getting in their face and eyes, blocking vision on equipment and upside down skills, and makes it difficult for coaches to safely spot. In my years of coaching we could have avoided extra tears if the institution had enforced this rule as hair would accidentally get pulled, caught in equipment, and even cause injury. However, we do keep a nice stash of hair ties on hand at all times so if you forget one/one breaks or you/your child (if like mine) would prefer someone else do their hair, our coaches can do that for you. We want all of this to be as easy and stress free on the parents as possible. If anything is forgotten or something were to come up there will always be an extra change of attire on hand, water (with ice!), t-shirts, etc.
No food or drink except for water is allowed during regular weekday classes (birthday parties, camps, parent night outs, private parties, etc. have certain foods provided or approved beforehand). If your child needs a quick snack in between school and practice we have a couple tables and chairs outside they are welcome to use.
If your child needs to use the restroom or needs privacy to change they will have access to the powder room and dressing room. Your child(ren) may also ask to be excused at any point in their class time to use the restroom and he/she will immediately be allowed to go.
We ask that upon arrival you drop your child(ren) off at the door with their coach(es) at the start of class and as they are dismissed they will walk out to you. Once everyone has arrived we lock the door for the duration of class as an extra safety precaution…not to lock anyone out. If someone besides the designated drop off guardian will be picking up for child(ren), please let your coach know so they can be prepared. Finally, If anything out of the ordinary happens during their practice we will inform you at that time. We will not contact you unless it’s an emergency or an urgent situation that needs to be addressed outside our care. No shoes are allowed on the studio floor (where equipment is used) for sanitary purposes and prefer socks be removed for the duration of practice for safety purposes. At arrival, shoes and socks will be taken off and stowed in a cubby area along with any other personal belongings and put back on before dismissal.
